Cut for Feeling

Find the cut point by where the feeling lands, then check rhythm, juxtaposition, sound, and music against it.

NOTHING FILLED IN YET

Everything you type is saved to this browser only, as you type. No account, no upload, nothing sent anywhere. Two things follow from that: it won’t be waiting for you on another device, and it isn’t permanent — some browsers, Safari in particular, clear this kind of storage after about a week without a visit, and a private window or a cleared cache takes it immediately. Print or save as PDF to keep anything you want to keep.

01THE CUT

That is your cut point. Not where the scene ends. Where the feeling lands.

02RHYTHM

Too much pressure exhausts. Too much release bores. The rhythm should alternate.

Fast then slow. Tight then wide. Loud then silent.

03JUXTAPOSITION

Place two images together and let the meaning emerge. Do not explain it. The audience is a collaborator.

04SOUND

Sound design should be doing narrative work without the audience noticing.

Typing speed. Ambient noise. The presence or absence of a sound.

05MUSIC

Lock music before editing, not after. Music determines pacing, so it should inform the cut.

If music is leading, give it space. If it is supporting, keep it subtle.
